It was a clear day when we started, and a clear, freezing night when we ended at Kings Lynn, with Mick Stubbs (298) picking up the F2 Novice of the Year well ahead of a second place scrap which saw John Wright (448) nip second from Mark Meeds (456), then we saw the rest of the grades come out for a somewhat heavier race where Ian Borchardt (273) won on his way to a heat and final double, shutting out Mark Simpson (871). Dave Brennan (68) won the twice held up consolation race, carving up Simon Johnson (769) in the closing stages after the second restart before another pile up stopped the race completely, one lap shy. Borchardt winning ahead of a spectacular battle between Ricketts and Rob Kaye (833) was only one point of interest in the final as Daz Kitson (732) rolled heavily into Mark Taylor (790) on the roadside turn, then Taylor lost it and turned on Kitson, running up and over Kitson's front end. Taylor was dismissed from the meeting while Andy Ford (13) took a win in another round of the Grand National Qualifiers having all but lost it to Kaye on the last lap. With Kaye on the outside and going ahead on the roadside curve, Johnson just happened to get between the two; Ford rammed Johnson onto Kaye then jetted home for the win ahead of Simpson and Brennan.
Meanwhile the 2l Saloons had three races starting with a win for Mark Whybra (64) well ahead of the field, Steve Santry (368) getting second in a race that saw a rollover for Craig Barnett (511), then Richard Dickerson (187), who had a hand in that roll, ran home for the second heat, Kevin Shinn (121) denied the race when he picked up Dickerson only to be spun out by Horry Barnes (6) on turn two! It was not to be Shinn's night as Santry improved on his first heat run by winning the final.
Joe Foster (79) made his long journey from Worksop pay off as he took the first heat for the Under 2l Banger Superbowl ahead of Alan "Speedy" Reed (88). From then, there was no stopping Speedy as he got the second heat and the final, defending champion Jack Foster coming home third in the late evening freeze.
