The F2's were especially well turned out for the ongoing World of Shale series which saw heat wins for Jamie Baguley (9) and Richard Park (771), Brian Shadbolt (70) beating the rain in the consolation. The final, however, was a thrilling spectacle all the way as the track dried a little to give some traction. With the usual white top scramble settled early on, Baguley took the lead after a short stoppage as Craig Finnikin (955) and Robert Johnson (824) chose to meet with Andrew Barnard's (131) back end sideways on on the back straight. Baguley now started into the back markers, which clumped the leaders up, notably Mark Simpson (871) and Mark Taylor (790), then Simpson lunged for Baguley, both going wide enough for Taylor to jet through for yet another shaleway victory, while Simpson and Baguley fought all the way to the finish line, Simpson holding second by half a car. Alan Skayman (177) had a fire while Simon Ricketts (228) had a roll which twice meant the restart of the Grand National Qualifier which was easily taken by Chris Mitchell (219) while Dave Feary (142) dumped Mark Meeds (456) to get to second place only to lose it on the line to Rob Kaye (833) who was holding Simpson off at the time, though Simpson couldn't follow Kaye through in time to make third. |

Julian Smith (216) took a relatively quiet first heat for the 2l Saloons, the second heat being a little more interesting as Andy Nash (166) came in easily while Diggy Smith (116) coasted in, supposedly to second, but saw Nick Houghton (293) shoot past in the last 50 yards to steal second off Smith. The Andy Cousin Memorial was a bit slippery but saw another victory for the orange and white Sierras, Craig Barnett (511) beating Karl Gilbert (33), though the best racing was down the field as Smith crunched it out with Mark Whybra (64) and Willie Barnes (126), Smith finally overcoming the other two but providing some close racing to the end. |

This leaves the BangerStox, who also had a mixed night of it with the weather slowing things down at times, but the night belonged to Lester Freestone (40) who carried off the Trackline final, the ramp rollover contest and repeated his caravan trashing trick last performed at the first meeting at Kings Lynn this year, with the caravan provided this time by Alan "Speedy" Reid (88). Hopefully he had finished with it! |
