Firecracker XI - The PRI Unlimited Classic Banger
Open
UK vs. US Demonstration race Sponsored by Race Video |
Arena Essex distinguished itself some years ago when the Firecracker event became the first in the country to race a Rolls Royce event, indeed to the extent of it being televised, though that race only featured a scant four machines. This time, and somewhat belated following a scan of the entry list, this extra race was a dual between the essentially British luxury car that is (or was, depending on how you view the current status of the company) Rolls Royce and the classic American people-of-substance carrier, the Cadillac. Effectively a limited contact race, it was clear from the start that Dave Nichols had the advantage. The Caddies found the negotiation of the turns somewhat difficult with the extra length, and anything sporting an engine transplant with the ubiquitous Grannie V6 found the going hard, and since Nichols has raced the Spirit before, he was used to getting the wallowing luxury car to go where it needed to go. Mickey Dent couldn't keep up but managed a creditable second, with Steve Moore getting third for the US folk.
