The South of England was hit heavily by winds of over 80 mph overnight and into the morning of Sunday, October 27. Among other damage suffered around the region, the Arena Essex circuit was damaged overnight, leading the officials at PRI to postpone the meeting. This is the first meeting (bar a couple of meetings that were called off shortly after the opening meeting, so Tony Woodroffe informed me on Monday) to have been abandoned since the circuit was opened in the late 1970's, and according to sources on site on the morning of the abandoned meeting, was due to concerns for public safety due to the continuing winds.
A recorded message was given on the main Arena Essex phone line by Russell Williams, racing manager at PRI, stating that the meeting would be rescheduled at a later date. The date hoped for, however, proved to be unavailable, so the meeting will not now go ahead.
