BriSCA F2 Stock Cars
A surprisingly good turnout for Arena Essex for the BriSCA F2 Stock Cars on June 4 for a domestic four race meeting supporting the Banger Team event that day saw Mick Sworder as the only break in the otherwise clean sweep for Chris Roots. Roots managed to push through on the back straight inside the last lap to take heat one ahead of ex-Mini ace Matthew Sayer in easily his best race on the Arena tarmac in an F2, then Roots eased home in heat two, Stuart Chalkley following at a distance. The final was somewhat more difficult as Roots' fellow red tops stepped up the pressure, especially Sworder who was only finally ditched at the Aveley turn, hit the pit bend after, then started all over again with Chris Roots' father, Tony, an ex-Superstox champion and very much at home on the Arena circuit! Chris Roots faked Gary Maynard wide to win the final, Jim Bamford following home in third in what turned out to be a fair day for him. Sworder had to battle with Tony Roots again before he could grab the Grand National qualifier win, Roots Snr. second while one lap handicapped son managed to get up to fifth by the end.

PRI Banger Teams
With points close in the PRI Banger Team Championships, the teams met for the final time on June 4 at Arena Essex to try to sort out who would go through to the Final Eliminator. With the champions, the Suicide Squad, out of the running, one might have expected the war to be all but over, and the first race seemed to bear that out with no Squad presence, Richie Ahern having to satisfy himself with the burying of former Squaddie Roger Trickett, Stuart Ruff taking the first eight for the Vange Destroyers while Wooster Smith and Kev Prayle equalled that for the Rabbits. However if that was what we thought of the war, then we were wrong as John Randall became the first Squad on the track in the second heat, only to suffer a Condom double team as Steve Davies pinned him down at the Aveley end before Mark Ruskin bundled in with a massive head on which, though it effectively got rid of the Squad, it also meant the end of the meeting for Davies who was taken out injured under the red flag. Colin Everett managed a rare win in the restart after burying Paul Russell on the way home with Tony Wade in tow to give the Rabbits a one-two and a convincing lead in the round, third spot going to Midnight Runner Jason Jackson. John Harris removed the back axle of Chris Whiteman in heat three while Frankie Holmes was taken out courtesy of a t-bone by Wayne Rowland, the Unamed and the Creams also claiming a stake in the war in heat three which went the way of the Ant Hill Mob with Darren Stern picking up eight of twelve points for the former champions with Gladiator Danny Oliver picking seven of eight for his team and Andy Swift getting some rare points in for new team, the Buzz Boyz.

As usual, the consolation turned into a big wrecking session, with Allen Trickett being crushed out by new father Shane Davies on turn three, Buzz Kelsey suffereing at the hands, or nose, of Ruskin before a pile up assisted crunch on Dave Greenstreet by Stuart Adcock preceeded a crushing for Ken Knight by Andy Davies and a first stoppage. This was nothing, however, compared to the shot on Sean Collin in the restart by Harris, the hit on the pit bend going in so hard that it left Collin's car bent and Harris's car on its roof in a two point rollover and another red flag. With only ten cars left of thirty-six, the second restart still saw wrecking action as Neal Wells, Dan Reid and Simon Warner tangled on turn four and Paul Jones nutted Andy Ashman, only four cars coming home including George Rowbotham and Peter Kirby of the Ant Hill Mob, Tommy McGurk of the Unamed and Kevin Elmore of the Menace.

This meant another Squad free final, with Everett trying to punt his way to the front before Ahern put him into teamy Pralye, though this did not stop te Rabbits runing away with the race, meeting and points as Tony Wade took a convincing win. Ahern actually finished the race spun in after an attack on Rowbotham went awry on the back straight. McGurk got into his wrecking stride in a one on one with Paul Russell while Boxer Jack crushed Mark Sprawling only to be hit by Dean Kingsworth who was done in turn by Neal Wells. With Wade in first and Wooster in third, the Rabbits eased home the winners of the meeting ahead of the Unamed and the Ant Hill Mob, the other finalists confirmed as the Condoms, the Midnight Runners, The Vange Destroyers, Dunno, Gladiators, Cream Team and the Wrekin Krew. The meeting should be interesting as the Mob, the Condoms and the Creams are all past winners of this event, while some of the Rabbits also saw action previously with another team favourite, the Essex Vermin.

However, if we thought that was the end of the big hitting action, we were all mistaken as the Rawlins 2000 qualifier turned into another two restart affair, the first after Kev Rust picked Holmes up and rammed him full bore into John Harris, while Allen Trickett was also destroyed on the pit bend. Stoppage two came after Kev Prayle decided to stuff Adcock big time, while Wayne Prayle decided to get in on the act after the second restart by taking Jay Randall on the head. In the race, a promising tussle built up with Dan Reid looked well set to win until Greenstreet spun him down to third spot, Andy Davies rodding through. That's how it finished, the DD section abandoned after Andy Swift got a shot from Greenstreet, Kev Swift indicating that he was in trouble which brought the reds out for the third and final time.
